WinFF

WinFF is a GUI for the command line video converter, FFMPEG. It will convert most any video file that FFmpeg will convert. WinFF does multiple files in multiple formats at one time. You can for example convert mpeg’s, flv’s, and mov’s, all into avi’s all at once. WinFF is available for Windows 95, 98 , ME, NT, XP, VISTA, and Debian, Ubuntu, Redhat based GNU/Linux distributions.

I have used WinFF for some time now and I have to say it does the job very well.  This application can convert just about any video file into almost any other format. This application makes use of the FFmpeg command line tool to convert the videos for you using a simple GUI interface.  One of the best features of this software is that you can do multiple files in a row and the program comes with a bunch of presets for encoding for different types of devices.

Use the “Add” button to add as many files to the list as needed, you can also drag and drop into the list box.  From there you choose your “Convert to” and  “Device Preset” selection.  Select the Output location and select “Convert”.

WinFF has the ability to create custom presets but it comes loaded with plenty of presets with the base install.  From the main interface you just choose what you want to convert to, this list is full of brands, devices, and standards (dvd, vcd, avi).  Choose what you want, and then choose the device preset.

I used this software under windows for a while, and when I swapped to Ubuntu I was happy to find that WinFF was still available.  If you have a lot of devices you need to convert to or just want something easy and fast I recommend you try WinFF.
